Choose the AI art ratio that matches the canvas shape you want: Square (1:1), Portrait (2:3), or Landscape (3:2). CanvasGenie's generator supports these three shapes. For a clean match, choose the ratio before generating, then pick a listed print size in the same orientation.
What does aspect ratio mean?
Aspect ratio compares an image's width with its height. A 24x36 inch portrait canvas is 2:3 because 24:36 reduces to 2:3; an 18x12 inch landscape canvas is 3:2. The order matters: we list dimensions width first, so portrait and landscape use reversed dimensions.
| Artwork ratio | Shape | Example gallery-wrapped canvas sizes (width × height) |
|---|---|---|
| Square (1:1) | Square | 12×12, 16×16, 24×24 |
| Portrait (2:3) | Portrait | 12×18, 20×30, 24×36 |
| Landscape (3:2) | Landscape | 18×12, 30×20, 36×24 |
These examples are available in the current gallery-wrapped canvas catalog. Other products have their own size lists, so check the canvas size guide before choosing a specific print. Adobe's crop ratio controls in Photoshop show how fixed ratios change the framing of an image.
Which ratio should I choose for the wall?
Pick the shape that suits the artwork and the open wall space. Square art is an easy fit for a grid or a compact wall; portrait art gives a tall subject room; landscape art spreads a scene across a wider wall. Those are starting points, not placement rules. Measure the clear space and mark the print outline with removable tape before ordering.
A landscape scene can work well in 3:2, while a full-length figure may need the height of 2:3. If the subject is centered and has breathing room around it, a different shape may still work. If important details sit near an edge, matching the ratio matters more because reframing can change what remains in view.
For room-by-room placement and the complete size lists, use the canvas size guide. If you are planning art above a sofa, see how to size a canvas above a couch.
What if my uploaded photo has another shape?
CanvasGenie's photo option uses an uploaded image as a visual reference to create a new painted interpretation. The generated result follows the selected output shape, so the source photo may be reframed. It does not print the uploaded file unchanged. In the text mode, you describe the image and select a supported shape before generation.
If you need an exact crop from an existing file, prepare that crop in an image editor before using a service that accepts print-ready files. Adobe explains how to keep proportions while resizing an image.

Pick a ratio, then a size
- Decide whether the wall calls for a square, portrait, or landscape composition.
- Select Square (1:1), Portrait (2:3), or Landscape (3:2) in the generator to match that shape.
- Choose an available print size in the same orientation. Sizes differ across canvas and poster products, so confirm the exact option in the size guide.
- Keep faces, lettering, and other important details away from the outer edge when you describe the composition.
For a gallery-wrapped canvas, the current catalog includes square sizes from 6×6 through 37×37 inches, portrait sizes from 8×12 through 40×60 inches, and landscape sizes from 12×8 through 60×40 inches. Those endpoints describe the available catalog lists, not every size between them. See the canvas print options for the product details.
Frequently asked questions
What aspect ratio is a 24×36 canvas?
A 24×36 canvas is 2:3 in portrait orientation. Divide both dimensions by 12 to reduce 24:36 to 2:3.
Which canvas sizes are 3:2?
Landscape sizes such as 18x12, 30x20 and 36x24 are 3:2. Check the selected product's size list because available sizes vary by product.
What should I do if my photo has a different ratio?
Choose a supported output shape and expect the generated interpretation to be reframed for it. CanvasGenie uses an uploaded photo as a reference for new artwork, not as an unchanged print file.
